obedience and peace: more sermon mumblings

This is true obedience...to obey even when there is no certainty that God will provide an escape.

As sometimes happens, there was a "honey do" list waiting for me at church this morning. But the sermon preparation continues anon. I am thinking about obedience...that ever-unpopular notion. I think that the story of the binding/sacrifice of Isaac is about obedience on one level. It is also about how and what we sacrifice and for what reasons on another level. Fun stuff. Here are two distractions for you... First, there is this conversation about music and worship. Some of the comments are interesting. This one caught my attention:
Clearly The Worship Wars are alive and well. The thing is, though, that worship is not about meeting our own personal needs or taste requirements. Worship is for God, and here's the question to ask the two camps: Would you be willing to give up your favorite music to bring new people into God's family? (Remember The Great Commission?) Worship is not about us, our style preferences, our comfort. Yes, we want to be fed spiritually, but the congregation that believes that worship is "for them" is a dying congregation.
Ouch! Second...um...I don't know if this is a good thing...
