I Am Not Going Away

Every once in a while someone will say to me something like, “Get off of Facebook!” Why? Well, because I spend a great deal of time and energy there rather than on my dissertation. Of course, it’s more complicated than that.

My colleagues are on social media. We tweet, facebook (Yes, it’s a verb.), and generally chat one another up all the time. We send each other articles. We tease one another about our work. It’s great fun and incredibly helpful. It’s one of the ways that I’m crowdsourcing the dissertation.

It’s also an incredible distraction. Incredible. Bigly distracting. Yuge.

I know you’re surprised.

As it is customary to make a Big Deal out of any changes (or attempted changes) to one’s social media activity, consider this the Big Deal.

I am not going anywhere, but I’m changing how I used the tools. Once again I’m going to be working through things here on the old blog and on Sonic Theology

So, prepare yourselves for dissertating full time. There will be nothing else. I’m going to struggle to do this, of course. I love this social media stuff. And many of you are an incredible help in getting me to put these intuitions into words, but things are outta whack. I need to get my ducks in a row.

Quack.
