calling all angels

Blessed are you, God of power and might,
the glorious Lord of the universe:
you created the host of angels and archangels
to become your eternal crown of praise
while carrying into your presence
our own acts of worship, faith and prayer.
For these and all your mercies, we praise you,
Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit:
Blessed be God for ever!

Some days I wake up and I'm not entirely sure what the day will bring. Do you know what I mean? It's not like any of us can predict the future, but sometimes our days become predictable and there's a certain kind of comfort in that. Predictability is not all boredom and complacency, you know. Sometimes it's nice. Then I wake up some mornings aware that there is nothing I can safely predict. Today is one of those days. It's not that my schedule is particularly odd. It's pretty much what it always is. But I am simply more aware of the vagaries of transition and change. Such knowledge is too troubling for me. Today is the feast day of St. Michael and All Angels. I am not sure what I think about angels and the like, but I do like the idea. I do have faith that God's loving message has messengers and they watch after us all. They are watching after me. I know this. They are delivering God's message to me every moment of every day. In uncertain times they stand guard. They call to me and try to help me hear God's Word. I don't always listen, but they are always vigilant.
